How to Create and Edit Compatible Dymo Address Labels

How to Create and Edit Compatible Dymo Address Labels

Arham Bafna |

Whether you're printing a single envelope or an entire mailing list, DYMO Connect gives you full control over how your address labels look and what information appears on them. This guide covers the most common questions users have about creating, editing, and managing Dymo compatible address labels, including what happens to your old address books after a software upgrade.

How Do I Create a New Address Label in DYMO Connect?

Creating a new label only takes a few clicks:

Click New in the top-left corner of DYMO Connect.

Select your Dymo printer and choose Address Label as the label type.

Pick the template that most closely matches what you need.

Click Open in the bottom-right corner.

Edit the label as needed, then print.

How Do I Add or Edit an Address on a Label?

If you're starting from a blank label, click Add and choose the Address object. Resize the object using its handles, then enter the address in the object. You can adjust the font, alignment, spacing, and other formatting options from the properties pane.

Can I Transfer My Old Address Books into DYMO Connect?

Yes. DYMO Connect can import an address book created in DYMO Label Software into a DYMO Connect contact list. From the Address object properties pane or the File menu, select Manage contacts, then choose Import from DYMO Label and select the address book file you want to import. DYMO Connect creates a new contact list using the same name as the DYMO Label address book.

DYMO Connect also lets you create and manage its own contact lists and import contacts from Google, Outlook, or Apple contacts.

Where Are My Old Address Book Files After Upgrading?

If you still need to locate an address book created in DYMO Label Software, the files are stored in the Documents > DYMO Label > Address Books folder by default. You can then import the address book into DYMO Connect as a contact list:

● Open DYMO Connect and select Manage contacts from the Address object properties pane or File menu.

● From the contact list drop-down, select Import from DYMO Label.

● Navigate to the DYMO Label address book file and click Open.

● DYMO Connect will create a new contact list using the same name as the original DYMO Label address book.

Installing or updating DYMO Label Software version 8 does not delete existing address books or saved label templates. Those files remain in the DYMO Label folder unless you previously saved them somewhere else.

Saving Time with Reusable Templates

Once you've created an address label layout you're happy with, such as the font size, spacing, logo, or return address, save the label to your computer so you can reuse the design later. DYMO Connect displays saved labels under Recent on the Open page, and you can mark frequently used designs as Favorites for easier access.

Picking the Right Label for the Job

Once you're comfortable creating and editing labels, choosing the correct size matters just as much as the software. Our address labels collection includes options like Dymo compatible 30252 labels for everyday mailing and Dymo compatible 30320 labels for a similar standard address format, both built to run cleanly through Dymo LabelWriter printers without jamming.

With DYMO Connect handling the design side and the right label stock loaded in your printer, creating and editing address labels becomes a five-minute task rather than a hassle.

Frequently Asked Questions

What software do I need to create Dymo address labels?

DYMO Connect for Desktop is the current software for supported DYMO LabelWriter printers. DYMO Label Software v8 is still available for legacy LabelWriter 4 series and older printers.

Can I import my old DYMO Label Software address book into DYMO Connect?

Yes. Open Manage contacts in DYMO Connect, select Import from DYMO Label, and choose your saved DYMO Label address book. DYMO Connect will create a new contact list from the imported address book.

Where can I find label templates I created before upgrading DYMO software?

Templates created in DYMO Label Software remain in the DYMO Label folder after installing or updating DLS v8. In DYMO Label Software, you can use File > Open to locate a saved template. DYMO Connect uses its own saved-label system. Labels created in DYMO Connect are saved to your computer and can be accessed through Recent, Favorites, or Browse from the Open page.

Which size Dymo labels work best for standard address printing?

Dymo-compatible 30252 and 30320 labels are both 1-1/8" x 3-1/2" address-label options. Check your LabelWriter model's compatibility before choosing a roll, as these labels are not compatible with Dymo 550/5XL or newer models that use RFID/chip detection.

Can I edit the layout of an address label after creating it?

Yes, to change the layout of an address label, you need to double-click inside the address object at any time to edit the text, and drag the outline to resize the layout as needed.
